[Labor Accident Case] Poisoning during the process of washing crystals using acetonitrile.
A case of poisoning that occurred during the process of washing crystals in a centrifuge using acetonitrile.
After transferring the crystals generated in the reaction vessel to a centrifuge and filtering them, we washed them with acetonitrile. However, due to insufficient washing, we switched to a kneading wash method that involved inserting hands into the centrifuge. We removed the duct of the local exhaust system of the centrifuge, which was obstructing the work, and while performing the task, we inhaled acetonitrile vapors, leading to exposure. The next day, four workers engaged in the kneading wash of the crystals reported feeling weak and went to the hospital for examination, where they were diagnosed with acetonitrile poisoning. [Suggestions] - Workers should wear personal PID monitors while working. - This will allow for monitoring exposure conditions and assist in the risk assessment of chemicals. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
